The March meeting of the MRTM Model Railroad Club was held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at AZO , Inc. which houses the modular layouts of five local groups. The above pictures are examples of their craftsmanship.
A revision of the plans for the Museum were presented. Key features were plans for a larger scale (G or O) model of the Main Street Trolley along the east wall of the Museum featuring familiar landmarks such as The Orpheum, Court Square and City Hall Plaza.
Instead of a single massive layout running the length of the tunnel, the new plan presented the concept of having several smaller layouts in various gauges depicting railroads in Memphis at different times in the City's history. Historical exhibits would be interspersed with the layouts. A "Thomas the Tank" or Disney layout would be included for the younger visitors.
An inventory of items of historical significance in the tunnel has been made and MATA has begun clearing out some of the debris in the tunnel.
The feasibility study is all but finished and will be given to MATA for review and for finishing touches. A couple of numbers derived from projections in the feasibility study need to be added the the application for 501-C status before it is filed. That could happen within the coming week. Once this is accomplished, attention can turn toward a business plan, fund-raising, etc.
Alternate Plans Are Presented
